CEO's Message
Dear Teachers, Principals, and Parents,

National Charter Schools Week officially begins today! Many among us have fought and struggled greatly from the birth of a small movement some 20 years ago to the present so families could have better educational options than their failing local schools.
It's hard for me to believe, for example, that it's been 13 years since I completed my dissertation on Why Parents of Students with Disabilities Choose Charter Schools, and 20 years since I began studying charter schools. Yet I find parents and families are no different today than those I interviewed then--they simply want something BETTER for their child.
As a school choice movement, we have been blessed along the way with so many courageous individuals and supporters on both sides of the aisle who've worked alongside us to create and sustain quality educational options for our parents and students. That legacy that so many have fought so hard to achieve is being further honed, added to, and created each and every day. You contribute significantly with every new child, every new family, and every new relationship you build within every community we serve. This does not go unnoticed.
Please celebrate your achievements this week, and celebrate your place in this incredibly complex and vibrant fabric of teaching and learning against the backdrop of a pivotal and dynamic time in this living history of education! I'm so proud of each and every one of you and your extraordinary efforts this year.
It is not insignificant that National Charter Schools Week corresponds with National Teacher Appreciation Week. We applaud you and appreciate you beyond words. There is simply no more important work than the work that you do. Bar none.
Know that always, you and the work that you do with the children remain the light of our lives.
